Since its premiere in Paris in 1875, Carmen , by Georges Bizet , is one of the most represented operas in history, has become a myth and has served as inspiration for great artists of other disciplines: painting, dance, cinema .. . the Royal Theater recovers this time with musical direction by Marc Piolllet and stage direction of Calixto Bieito .
The Spanish stage director opens in Carmena history of violence and marginalization, of sensuality to the skin, of the struggle of the sexes, in which the true protagonist is gender violence. Bieito moves the action to a Ceuta or Melilla of the seventies, with a minimalist decoration that bare the more marginal side of the city. Anna Goryachova , Stéphanie d'Oustrac and Gaëlle Arquez will be the voice of Carmen throughout the 18 functions.
