The pioneers of the blues of the desert were the group Tinariwen instituting a powerful sound that mixes the electricity of the rock with the own songs of the Tuareg tradition. Inspired by them, a new generation emerges, among them Tamikrest, a group that debuted in 2006 under the leadership of Ousmane Ag Mossa, singer, guitarist and composer. Like him the members of the band originate of Kidal, a city located in the northeast of Mali.
When they participated in the mythical Au Desert Festival, near Timbuktu, they contacted the Dirtmusic group led by Chris Eckman (The Walkabouts) and Hugo Race (Bad Seeds) and Chris Brokaw (Codeine, Come). They were invited to participate in their second album, "BKO" (2010), and were so happy with their work that Eckman became their producer in addition to taking them on tour in Europe. Since then they have maintained a close relationship and all the albums of the group - "Adagh", "Toumastin", "Chatma" and "Taksera" - have been edited by the prestigious German label Glitterbeat.
Tamikrest debuted in Spain at the 2013 Tanned Tin Festival, garnering unanimous applause, and will return in the spring of 2017 to present at the Mil.lenni Festival their fifth album, "Kidal", which will be released on March 17th and in which they balance Perfectly its rocker and meditative elements. It has been recorded in Bamako, with Mark Mullholland (from Afro-Haitian Experimental Orchestra by Tony Allen) to production, while David Odlum, a Grammy winner for his work with Tinariwen, has been in charge of the mixes.
