The Historical Museum of Villele, was established by the Department of Reunion in 1974 on a vast colonial mansion, the former home-Panon Desbassayns.
Located in the town of Saint-Paul, the area evokes the prosperity of a Creole family that has marked the history of La Réunion in the 18th and 19th centuries.
The property was one of the largest land holdings of the island and developed mainly between the gullies of Saint-Gilles and Hermitage.
