He is going to heaven. But it is not the otherworldly, the latter is the object of his research. In the end of the 16th century, the physicist Galileo Galilei came into conflict with the church leaders because, with his knowledge, he shook the prevailing worldview and thus also the foundations of the Christian faith. The Inquisition takes it. Galileo is to be revoked.
The life of Galileo is one of Bertolt Brecht's most famous pieces: it deals with nothing less than subjects such as truth and treason, science and responsibility, rebellion and adaptation.
